Dolgovsky’s book, Thermal Power Plants and Heating Networks, provides information necessary for studying the thermal power plant’s thermal components in accordance with the curricula of power engineering technical schools. It also covers the fundamental principles of thermal power plant design and the operation of thermal equipment. It demonstrates how to determine the efficiency indicators of a power plant and analyzes efficiency improvement methods used in modern power plants. It briefly outlines the key considerations for selecting the layout of the master plan and the main workshops of a power plant.

Dolgovskii’s book, Thermal Power Plants and Heating Networks, is intended as a textbook for the course “Thermal Power Plants and Heating Networks” for energy majors at technical schools. It can also be used by students majoring in electrical engineering at power engineering universities when studying the thermal components of power plants.

This book by Dolgovsky – Thermal Power Plants and Heating Networks is the second edition of the textbook “Thermal Power Plants“, published in 1954. The need for a new edition is dictated by the fact that the first edition, as well as books by other authors intended for power engineering technical schools, has become largely outdated due to the rapid development of domestic thermal power engineering. Due to the fact that the present revised edition is intended as a textbook for power engineering specialties of technical schools, its volume has been reduced to the standards established for textbooks, despite some expansion of the range of issues covered by the book by Dolgovsky – Thermal Power Plants and Heating Networks, and the addition of new sections – “Heat Networks” II “Gas Turbine Units”, which were absent from the first edition. In addition, Chapter 1 includes § 1-6 “Technical and Economic Indicators of a Power Plant”, written by V. Ya. Girshfeld. Sections 1-5 and 2-2.l. have also been written.

According to the curriculum of power engineering technical schools, nuclear power plants are covered in a special course and are not discussed here.

The new edition of Dolgovsky – Thermal Power Plants and Heating Networks also attempts to reflect new, progressive solutions used in the construction of modern, high-power thermal power plants.
