BS EN 1264-1:2021 Water-based surface embedded heating and cooling systems. Part 1: Definitions and symbols
This document, BS EN 1264-1:2021, “Water-based surface embedded heating and cooling systems — Part 1: Definitions and symbols,” supersedes the standard EN 1264-1:2011.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, no later than November 2021, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn no later than November 2021.
This document (EN 1264-1:2021) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 130, “Space heating appliances without integral heat sources,” the secretariat of which is held by UNI.
— Part 4: Installation;
a) Clarification of the scope;
b) Improved wording;
The main changes compared to the previous edition are listed below:
d) Expansion of the range of types of embedded heating and cooling systems;
f) Updated references;
e) Removal, modification, and addition of several terms and definitions;
The systems covered by the EN 1264 series are integrated into the load-bearing structure of building envelope surfaces, installed either directly or by means of mounting supports. The EN 1264 series does not cover ceiling systems installed within a suspended ceiling that feature a designed open air gap between the system and the building structure, which allows for air circulation driven by heat. The thermal output of these systems can be determined in accordance with the EN 14037 and EN 14240 series of standards.
The EN 1264 series of standards provides recommendations for water-based heating and cooling systems integrated into the building envelope (surrounding structures) of the spaces to be heated or cooled. It also addresses the use of heat-transfer media other than water, where applicable. The EN 1264 series covers heating and cooling systems installed in both residential and non-residential buildings (such as office, public, commercial, and industrial facilities) and focuses on systems designed to ensure thermal comfort.
The EN 1264 series defines standardized product characteristics—through the calculation and testing of the thermal output of heating systems—for the purposes of technical specifications and certification. For the design, construction, and operation of these systems, refer to EN 1264-3 and EN 1264-4, which cover system types A, B, C, D, H, I, and J.
