The purpose of this book, Nikola Tesla – Lectures and Articles, is to introduce the reader to Nikola Tesla’s most important works in the many fields of science to which he devoted himself. Tesla publicized his inventions in lectures given at numerous scientific organizations, obtained patents for his numerous inventions, and wrote articles in various newspapers and magazines. Following this, the book consists of three parts: lectures, patents, and articles.

The first part of Nikola Tesla – Lectures and Articles contains, in chronological order, five of Tesla’s most important lectures. The most important is the classic lecture: ‘A New System of Transformers and Terminus Current Motors’, delivered before the AIEE (The American Institute of Electrical Engineers) on May 16, 1888, in which Tesla explained the principles of his famous induction motor. Other important lectures included in this book are ‘Experiments with Alternating Currents of Very High Frequency and Their Application to Methods of Artificial Lighting’, delivered before the AIEE on May 20, 1891. ‘Experiments with Alternating Currents of Very High Frequency’, delivered before the Society of Electrical Engineers and the Royal Society of London on the 3rd, 4th, and 19th of February 1892, respectively. ‘On Light and Other Phenomena of High Frequency’, delivered before the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, on February 24, 1893, and again before the National Electric Light Association, St. Louis, in March of that year. In these lectures, Tesla discussed his achievements in the field of high frequencies and high voltages. This section of the book Nikola Tesla – Lectures and Articles concludes with a lecture, “High-Frequency Oscillators for Electro-Hermeneutic and Other Purposes,” delivered before the American Electro-Hermeneutic Association in Buffalo on September 13, 1898.

The second section of this book, Nikola Tesla – Lectures and Articles, is devoted to Nikola Tesla’s patents, selected from among the many patents registered with the United States Patent Office. These patents are divided into groups, each group arranged in the order of registration. The first group contains 25 patents on electric motors and generators, the second group contains nine patents on electrical energy transmission. This is followed by a group of six patents on solutions to specific lighting problems. Next come 17 patents for controllers and high-frequency devices, and a group of 12 patents in the field of radio engineering. After a number of important patents on radio control and a group of five patents on turbines and similar devices, this section of Nikola Tesla – Lectures and Articles concludes with a group of 11 patents addressing various problems that aroused Tesla’s interest.

The third section of this book, Nikola Tesla – Lectures and Articles, containing selected scientific and technical articles by Nikola Tesla, is also divided into groups. Tesla’s articles are presented in the order of their publication.

The first group of 17 articles concerns Tesla’s work in the fields of X-rays, the Tesla oscillator, high-frequency currents, electrical machines, and electrical discharge in tubes, and concludes with an article on telephotography. The second section of this part consists of eight articles dealing with Tesla’s worldview and his opinions on the future of electricity, where he discusses both technical and general issues of interest to humanity. This section concludes with Tesla’s own biographical sketch.
