Which gases are classified as heavy hydrocarbons?
Heavy hydrocarbon gases with the formula (СпН2п+2) include: ethane (С2Н6), propane (С3Н8), butane (С4Н10) – like methane, they have no color, odor or taste, and are non-toxic. Their physical properties depend on their molecular weight.
The larger the μ, the higher the density of heavy hydrocarbons (p), the higher the calorific value (Q), and the more air required to burn 1 m³ of heavy hydrocarbons.
Unsaturated heavy hydrocarbon gases include: ethylene (C2H4), propylene (C3H6), butylene (C4H8). Their properties also change with increasing μ, as do heavy hydrocarbons.
These gases are heavier than air and have a high heat of combustion.
